Rental Equipment Available Upon Request
The Dakota County Soil and Water Conservation District has several pieces of
equipment available to rent for landowners in Dakota County.
Please submit the contact form found below if you’d like more information or if you’d like to rent.
CRIMPER
The crimper is used to reduce erosion potential by anchoring straw into exposed soils. A tractor with at least 18 horsepower and 2 hydraulic couplers is required.
No charge if being used as part of an erosion control practice, but a reimbursable damage deposit of $50 cash or check is required.
HAND SEEDER
The Truax hand seeder is for broadcasting native prairie seed over small areas (recommend under 2 acres). Separate equipment is necessary to prepare site for seeding.
No charge for using the hand seeder, but a reimbursable damage deposit of $50 cash or check is required.
BROADCAST SEEDER
The Kubota broadcast seeder is available for rent to establish native prairie. The seeder can also be used to broadcast cover crops. Seeding width varies based on seed type, tractor height and size, and operating speed. SWCD staff will assist with set up and calibration of seeder. A tractor with 40 – 60 horsepower, 3-point hitch, and a PTO is required for operating.
Rent is $100 for delivery, pick up, and assistance setting up.
TREE PLANTING BARS
Tree planting bars are used to quickly plant bare root trees by hand. To use the tree planting bar, step it into the ground like a shovel to create an opening. Place the tree in the opening, and step the tree planting bar into the ground 2 inches from the tree. While the tree planting bar is in the ground, pull the handle towards you and then push the handle toward the tree to close the original opening.
There is no charge for using the tree planting bar, but a reimbursable damage deposit of $50 cash or check is required.
